About the event

Difficulty - Newbie Educator: Asta Darling How many things can you carry in two hands at once at the Con? Car keys, phone, energy drink, room key, badges, ribbons, business cards, protein snacks, Starbucks; the list can be endless! With this class, you’ll learn how to make a historic tie-on pocket from the 18th century that is as essential now as it was throughout history! You will learn to construct a historic tie on waist pocket that can be used for historic costuming and cosplay builds alike. The constructed pocket will handily hold all your essential objects freeing the owner up for those long awaited hugs and handshakes from fellow Con-goers! During this class the student will learn a brief history of how pockets became the rage and how they changed throughout our ever-evolving fashion history. Who wore these scandalous frivolities and what secrets did they hide? What were some of the most unusual things found in a lady’s (or gent’s) pocket? These handy little pockets can be used today to safely keep all you treasures stashed above or below your cosplay build. They can be embellished with embroidery, ribbon, jewels, HTV or left plain for your purist spirit. The instructor will explore examples of various historic pockets and how they were worn throughout history.
